    @2:33 Sensor readout speed moaners are similar to single card squealers. Just use a mechanical shutter and forget about it. What’s your problem?

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach 4 часа назад

      Mechanical shutter introduces shake that can cause motion blur at lower shutter speed, which are often required during wildlife photography. If I’m going to spend this much money, I want the fastest read out speed. I don’t care about card slots.

    Canon R7 , Adapter, Canon 100mm macro( non is) . Most of my butterly macros out of focus. I use ewf while shooting and I see the target out of focus and always blury. Thanks to the full time manual mode otherwise I would not have sharp images if only use AF mode only.( Camera mode: Single shot, spot metering, Lens AF ON)Any information will higly be welcomed.

    I based my speeds on a Petapixel video and a sensor speed chart available online. Several people are disputing the 8ms versus 4 ms speeds saying the R5 Mark II readout speed might be 6.3ms instead of the 8ms that I reported and the Z8/Z9 might be 3.7ms instead of the 4ms I reported. Assuming these new figures are correct, in the time it takes for the R5 Mark II sensor to read out, the Z8/Z9 sensor can read out slightly over 1.7 times. That is still a huge speed advantage for Nikon. Another advantage for me for the Z8 is the 180-600 lens is in my opinion a much better lens than Canon’s 200-800 which if you follow the channel, you’ll know that I have been only moderately happy with it since I got it in December of last year.

    As you know, Debbie, I ordered my R5 deuce yesterday. Shying away from the R1. As Shania said, "...that don't impress me much." Get well soon, my friend! PS. Canon's ISO of L (low), does that not equate to an ISO of 50?

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach 6 часов назад

      Thank you! Sorry, I don't understand the Debbie reference. If we are comparing Extended ISO then Canon is 50 and Nikon is 32. If we are comparing native ISO Canon is 100 and Nikon is 64. I try to never use extended ISO. I'm sure the R5 Mark II will be fine, in fact it should blow the mark I away. I just wanted the fastest 45mp sensor I could afford. The Nikon is faster and cheaper.

    Thanks for a great review. I have a question regarding step up rings. If I buy the Kase ND set I will need the 112mm set and step up rings for my other lenses. My question is, can I buy a generic step up ring, or do I have to by the Kase step up ring? My thought is, if I buy a generic ring that will make my 77mm lens like a 112mm and the Kase magnetic adapter will fit on that, thus allowing the magnetic ND filters. Would that work? Without them in my hand I don't know for sure, so I am asking. Thank you in advance.

    • @PhilThach

    First, get well soon! Second, the Z8 was release at the end of May 2023, so it has been 2-3 years for that camera/sensor. Canon has disclosed the readout speed exactly, but Tony Northrup has it listed at 1/160th of second or 6.3ms. He also has the Nikon Z8/Z9 at 1/270 of a second or 3.7ms, so it is definitely faster. The original R5, btw, he has listed at 1/60th of a second or 16.7ms so the Mark II isn't just shy of 3x faster readout. What little fast moving photography was available seemed to demonstrate rolling shutter to be very well controlled. We'll probably have to wait for more testing to be done and published to really assess how good/bad it really is. For me, as person with a ton of Canon glass, and years of using Canon under my belt it represents more than a worthy upgrade when you look at all the updates. From my perspective, the Nikon system was a generation behind on autofocus prior to the release of the R5 II and R1. This puts them even further behind. Perhaps some of the gap can be resolved with firmware updates, but Canon put an extra chip (the Accelerator) in to help make the gains so it may require new hardware to make another big leap for Canon. At the end of the day, all the cameras are really good and differentiating them is more and more becoming an exercise of splitting hairs. Again, good luck on a speedy recovery and try not to get too worked up over anything.

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach 21 час назад

      3.7ms for $800 less than 6.3ms. As for how long that sensor has been around, the Z9 came out in October of 2021. Z8 and Z9 use the same sensor. Canon is behind on sensor technology and development.
